Supporting Security In A Megacity: Lagos Security Trust Fund Presents Special Recognition Award To Jim Ovia
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) on Tuesday June 21 st 2016 presented A Special RecognitionAward to the Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, and leading philanthropist Mr. Jim Ovia in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Fund and the improvement of security in Lagos State.
Presenting the award to Mr. Ovia at the Civic Towers in Victoria Island, the Chairman of the LSSTF and Managing Director of Leadway Assurance Plc., Mr. Oye Hassan Odukale commended the commitment of Mr. Ovia to the issue of security in Lagos State while he was Managing Director of the Zenith Bank and for carrying on the good work even after moving on to other endeavors. He said:
“Mr. Ovia has demonstrated without any doubt his commitment to promoting a peaceful and secure atmosphere for businesses to thrive in Lagos. He is one of the major financial contributions to the Fund since inception and also encourages other individuals and organisations to be a part of the mission of supporting the various security agencies operating in Lagos State. This is therefore an opportune time to recognize the work he has done and continues to do and present this Merit Award as a small gesture to reflect our sincere gratitude as an organization and on behalf of all Lagosians.”
On his part, Mr. Ovia, while receiving the award, expressed his gratitude for the Merit Award and for the recognition of the work that the Jim Ovia Foundation is carrying out, especially in Lagos State. He also pledged to do more to promote safety and security in Lagos State. Other member so the LSSTF Board present for the occasion were the former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Israel Ajao (rtd.), Managing Director of Aircom Limited, Mr Adeyemi Ajao and the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Fund, Dr. Abdurrazq Balogun.
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) was established in 2007 by a law of the Lagos State House of Assembly, principally to provide a clear vehicle through which to institutionalize an enduring public-private approach to the to the resource problems of security institutions in Lagos State in order to fill the deficiency resulting from decades of under-funding by the Federal Government.
